Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to file Polish taxes for Robinhood transactions?

Yes. Robinhood is a US broker, so all income is foreign-sourced and must be reported on PIT-38. Polish tax residents are required to report worldwide income regardless of where the broker is based.

Do I need to file PIT-ZG for Robinhood?

Yes, since Robinhood is a US broker, all transactions are considered foreign income. You must attach PIT-ZG to your PIT-38 return. The calculator automatically prepares the country breakdown.

How are Robinhood options taxed in Poland?

Options profits and losses are reported on PIT-38 as capital gains. The taxable event occurs when the option is exercised, expires, or the position is closed. Options are taxed at the standard 19% rate.

How does US withholding tax work with Robinhood?

US dividends are subject to 30% withholding tax (or 15% with W-8BEN). Per Art. 11(2) of the PL-US treaty, only 15% is creditable against Polish 19% tax in Section G — you pay the 4pp gap in Poland. If broker withheld 30% (no W-8BEN), the extra 15pp is reclaimable from the IRS via Form 1040-NR — NOT from the Polish tax authority.

Does Robinhood issue PIT-8C?

No, Robinhood is a US broker and does not issue Polish tax forms. You must calculate and file your PIT-38 independently using the Activity Report CSV export.

Common Issues and Solutions
