Tax Settlement with XTB

XTB is a Polish broker, so transactions on the GPW (Warsaw Stock Exchange) do not require PIT-ZG. However, transactions on foreign instruments (e.g., CFDs on American stocks, ETFs) may require PIT-ZG.

Dividends from Polish companies are subject to withholding tax (19%) and you do not need to report them in PIT-38 if they have already been taxed by the payer.

CFD transactions are settled as derivative instruments. Each closed CFD position generates income or a loss, which is settled in PIT-38.

XTB reports transactions in PLN, so there is no need for currency conversion. However, for foreign instruments, rates are already converted by the broker.

The FIFO method is mandatory. XTB exports transactions in chronological order, which makes applying the FIFO method easier.

Example of Tax Settlement for an XTB Transaction

Example: You bought 10 PKO BP shares in January 2025 at 50 PLN per share (500 PLN). In June 2025, you sold all shares at 60 PLN per share (600 PLN). Commission: 5 PLN for the purchase and 5 PLN for the sale. Income: 600 - 500 - 10 = 90 PLN. Tax: 90 x 19% = 17.10 PLN. This transaction does not require PIT-ZG because it involves a Polish company on the GPW.
